Meet Keirra,

- Founder of
Sunflower Support

My passion for disability care is deeply rooted in lived experience and a heartfelt understanding of the challenges families face when seeking external support.

My beautiful and cheeky brother, James, was born at just 25 weeks’ gestation in 1988. As a result, he lives with high needs cerebral palsy and blindness. For over 30 years, I’ve watched my mum tirelessly seek support workers who could not only meet James’ complex needs but also step into our family’s world with compassion, initiative, and a genuine willingness to go the extra mile.
The exceptional individuals who showed up for our family left lasting imprints on our hearts—and they inspired the mission behind Sunflower Support.

Motivated by these experiences and a drive to create meaningful change, I pursued studies in childhood development and community services, specialising in behavioural and emotional support. My approach is holistic and collaborative—I work with individuals and their support networks to share knowledge, navigate challenges, and celebrate progress together.
As “James’ big sister,” I’ve learned how vital it is to nurture the whole support system—not just the individual. Ignoring this need does a disservice to everyone involved. I’ve also come to understand how intimidating it can be to access communities when unspoken challenges draw unwanted attention.

Outside of work, I’m a proud wife and mum of eight—four with paws and tails! Sunflower Support is a proudly pet-friendly service that’s actively involved in the local community. Music is also a big part of who I am—I sing in a local band, and we regularly perform at family-friendly festivals that bring people together. If you're someone who finds joy in music, I’d love to help you explore and embrace that part of yourself too.

I’m a fierce advocate for disability education and awareness in our communities—especially within educational settings. My focus is on shifting systemic thinking by equipping both educators and students with the knowledge to foster truly inclusive environments. I’m currently developing a program for the early learning sector aimed at reducing fear and stigma from the start. My dream is to replace stares with curiosity and shift the message from “don’t look” to “let’s talk.” I imagine a future where children grow into adults who see difference not as something to be fixed, but as something to be understood, respected, and celebrated. A future where the distinction between equity and equality is not only understood, but deeply valued. I want to be part of a movement that lives by the belief that “when we know better, we do better”—a world where we no longer ask people to fit outdated moulds, but instead create new ones that reflect everyone.

I would be honoured to be part of your journey. It brings me true joy to walk alongside people, create opportunities, and support you in finding your own path forward.

Reach out to Sunflower Support—let’s explore how I can support you.
